Fantastic Fats

Greetings to you all on this chilly May evening.  I am very excited with the changing seasons, shorter days and cosy nights sharing wonderful wholesome food in front of a crackling fire.  Guanaba certainly hits the chill factor at night!  All the more reason to feast on fantastic, life promoting fats.

Fats in the form of Raw Cold-pressed Coconut Oil, Cultured Organic Butter,(preferably from grass eating cows, not grain fed) Organic Cream and Olive oil.  Other important fats from avocados, nuts and seeds.  One question for you- How many people do you know that have gone on a low fat diet, only to hear how they crave carbohydrates more and then when the diet is finished, they put back on all the weight and more than what they may have been carrying before the diet.  Well the answer is very simple when you look at what the body needs for brain function, hormone production, energy and warmth.  Its FATS in the good old natural form.  Fats satisfy the appetite, as the mechanism in the brain knows when the body has had adequite amounts, whereas carbohydrates metabolise quite differently and often leave us wanting more.

Dr Western A. Price studied ancient cultures that literally had no cavaties in their teeth, strong bones, well functioning reproductive systems, and they consumed large amounts of animal fats, and very little if any grain type foods.  Their energy levels were incredible as they survived the threat of the  harshest winters, wild animals and long distance travelling.

Why then have people become so scared of the good fats and through media propaganda, turned to artificial fats, that are having a grave effect on our health.

“Food for thought” facts about fats:

* Saturated fatty acids constitute at least 50% of the cell membranes, giving them integrity so that they function properly.

* For calcium to be absorbed into the skeletal structure, 50% of the dietry fats should be saturated.

* They lower Lp(a) a substance in the blood that indicates proneness to heart disease.

* They protect the liver from alcohol and other toxins

* They enhance the immune system

* The heart needs fats to function especially in times of stress.

So by consuming fats such as : Butter, cream(organic and grass fed cows), lard, beef, duck ,lamb and goose fat, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, raw milk and yoghurt, you are actually doing yourself a favour for health and longevity.

Once fats have been heated, the nature of them changes.  So once milk has been homogenised and pasteurised, all its digestive enzymes have been destroyed, leaving us with a product that is now causing so many allergies in people. All outbreaks of salmonella in America were from pasteurised milk not raw milk.

Synthetic margarines cause denaturing of DNA, leaving us with damaged cells replicating more damaged cells.

Processed cheeses contain emulsifiers, extenders, phosphates and hydrogenated oils.

No wonder the human race is battling life threatening diseases more than ever.

So this winter and every season following let natural raw fats be a big part of your life!
